Generator Neutral Point Grounding Resistance Cabinet

When a single-phase ground fault occurs in the generator circuit of a power plant and the fault current reaches a certain threshold, specific “critical” conditions may be met, triggering the occurrence of “intermittent” arc-ground overvoltages and subsequently leading to arc-ground overvoltages. Given that generators have relatively low withstand voltage levels, their insulation is prone to damage. If the ground fault current exceeds a critical magnitude, it can cause burning of the generator’s iron core and generate mechanical stresses on the generator and its associated circuits that are significantly higher than those under normal operating conditions.
Therefore, in generators, the neutral point is typically grounded through a high-resistance connection. When a single-phase ground fault occurs in the circuit, this grounding method helps limit arc-ground overvoltages, reduce damage to the iron core, and minimize mechanical stress on the generator and its associated circuits.
